Empowering Lives For Over 60 Years
The Epilepsy Association of Western New York, Inc. (EAWNY) is a nonprofit organization offering professional services to individuals with Epilepsy and/or seizure disorders, their families and significant others.
The mission of the Epilepsy Association of WNY, Inc. (EAWNY) is to assist individuals and their families in coping with and adjusting to Epilepsy and/or seizure disorders to enable them to lead more independent, productive and satisfying lives.
The EAWNY was founded in 1947 to address the problem of soldiers returning from World War II, who were experiencing seizures from head injuries sustained in battle. The founders of our organization were parents concerned about the community's reaction and acceptance of their children experiencing seizures. Goals were established: to reduce stigma and discrimination, to provide education about epilepsy to individuals and the community, to encourage and promote research and to assist individuals with epilepsy find employment. Over the past 60 years, services have expanded but the agency's goal to improve the overall quality of life for individuals living with epilepsy has remained steadfast.
The Epilepsy Association of WNY, Inc. is a member of the Epilepsy Coalition of New York State, Inc.
